If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve found yourself curious over this elusive “FibreShare” thing all your Fibre-friends are talking about… and suddenly – here you are – and your curiosity has peaked. You’re ready for someone to give it to you straight. Well look no further, we are here to give you all the knitty-gritty details surrounding what has quickly become one of the largest yarn and fiber-swaps in all the land.
Founded in 2015, FibreShare is at its very basic, an international yarn swap. Every few months, we open sign-ups for fiber-lovers to become an active participant in our next share. All Crafts, skill levels, and fiber philosophies are welcome and to participate all you need to do is sign up during open registration for each round; which includes paying a small fee, answering a few questions regarding your fiber preferences, and giving us your mailing address. Once sign-ups have closed we will get to work hand-matching you with two partners: One you will be sending a share-package to, and another who will be sending your share-package to YOU.
After you’ve received your partner info, the real fun begins and you can introduce yourself on Instagram, learn about your partner’s aesthetic, and start curating your share-package for your partner. We like to keep things simple and fun so we don’t have many rules, but the ones we have are SUPER important! You’re required to send at least 200 grams of yarn and/or fiber, and to send by the shipping deadlines outlined in the beginning of each round of swapping. Other than that we’re not interested in where you bought the yarn, how much money you spend, or whether it came from your stash…although…it’s always best to send your partner something you know they will love creating with.
And don’t worry! If your package goes missing or your partner flakes out on you, we’ve built missing-package-insurance in to our sign up fee so that anyone who doesn’t receive a package will be taken care of.
Okay, so we know you’re all excited about new yarn now…but in all honestly, FibreShare has become so much more than that: we’re a community and an avenue to bring fibre-folk together, forge life-long friendships, and try out some new fluffy goodness (aka yarn) in the process. Hey, it’s even in our mission statement:
“we are an international yarn and fiber swap open to all crafts with a focus on fostering connections beyond the screen while contributing to the growth of the Fibre-community”
We have to say it though: if you’re joining for what you might receive – FibreShare is probably not the swap for you. But if you’re joining to have some fun, meet new people, and have a few laughs…then YES…we can’t wait to share with you!
Still on the fence?
